Adult Literacy programs support adult learners to gain foundational skills and improve their literacy skills. All Adult literacy groups are offered at a low cost to the adults participating thanks to our funding from Advanced Education.

Connect Society is proud to offer a course for Deaf adults that focuses on how to stay healthy in body and in mind. In this Deaf Adult literacy program we will go through Soft skills which are ways of acting or thinking that make it easier to work well with other people. Basic food safety — This is offered with curriculum from Alberta Health Services. We will alternate between Soft skills and Food safety. When: Spring session — June 3 rd , 6 th , 10 th , 13 th , 17 th, 20 th, 27th. If you do not have a laptop or tablet, let us know as we can loan out laptops for the purposes of learning.

Unfortunately, a sudden unanticipated retirement of the intermediate-level instructor has meant that we cannot offer level courses in the upcoming academic year. For equity purposes, we hire only born Deaf instructors and therefore plan to conduct a national search for a replacement so that those courses can be offered again starting the — academic year.

Looking for a fun and engaging course to fill your Language-other-than-English LOE requirement or an elective? Looking for a major in ASL in combination with another language? It is visual language using fingers and hands to communicate. This class focuses on conversation using simple phrases and sentences moving away from signing each letter of a word. This level will increase your confidence by learning that it takes ongoing comprehending, receptively and expressive signing skills to ASL.
