Google has now announced that it is closing Orkut down, and if you have any pictures or messages in Orkut that you want to keep, then you need to save them elsewhere. If you are still an active user or if you have some data there that you'd like to download, there are easy ways to do so. Before you begin, know that you can't download information from other people's accounts. Google only lets you download data from your own Orkut account. This also means you won't be able to download the scraps or testimonials you sent to other people.

You can only download the scraps and testimonials you've received and their comments. This method will stop working after September 30, All these photos will only be visible to you. You'll have to change their privacy settings to make them visible to others. If you want to save the pictures and scraps to your computer instead, you can use Google Takeout.

The online games on Facebook were a fascinating feature. It added to its complete package for the users which eventually led to people spending more time on Facebook other than just scrolling down news feeds or sending messages. Some analysts believe that it was better for Google to put more effort into Orkut instead of releasing Google Plus which never took off.

Orkut had a strong base in Brazil, India, and a few other countries. When Facebook tried its best to stay ahead in the market, Orkut remained stagnant. On September 30 of the year, it was finally decided that Orkut would be dissolved by Google, with a parting note in its last Orkut blog. However, Orkut made its comeback with Hello, the next generation of Orkut.
